Endlich hat sich ein Autor gefunden, der die wahre Geschichte rund um Tombstone und die berühmte Schießerei am O. K. Corral sehr gut recherchiert und in einem spannend geschriebenen Buch festgehalten hat. Das Buch teilt sich in mehrere Kapitel auf, die von der Gründung der Stadt Tombstone, über ihren wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung bis hin zur Schießerei führen.Dazwischen liegen weitere Kapitel mit Biographien über die mit dem Geschehen verbundenen Persönlichkeiten wie beispielsweise des Earp-Clans, der Clanton-Familie, Doc Holliday und Johnny Behan. Der Leser erfährt auch einiges über die politischen Verhältnisse in der Stadt, die wesentlich für die Schießerei sind, wird aber auch über den Verfall der Stadt aufgeklärt.Mir persönlich war nie so recht klar, wie groß, nein, riesig Tombstone doch damals gewesen sein muß. Allein die Zahl der Bewohner, die den Särgen der McLaury-Brüder und Billy Clanton folgten, war auch ohne Freunde der Getöteten enorm.Ich will nicht zuviel vorweg nehmen, empfehle dieses Buch jedoch jedem, dessen Herz an dieser Epoche des amrikanischen Westens hängt. Nur sehr gut Englischkenntnisse sollte man haben.
If you have never found out about the real story, well, here you can. The characters are presented in a very realistic way. This means that when facts are not clear, this is openly and directly presented as well as presenting multiple views, allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions. At the end I had the feeling that I knew, as much as possible what went on, what led up to it as well as what went on after during the lives of the involved parties.The story drags, because the author goes into such minutia of detail and wanders around through side stories. But, if you really want to get that authentic feeling and look behind the Holllywood and other stereotypes (including the various publications directly written by or with the assistance of the characters themselves), then have patience and make your way through the book: it is well worth it.
